They pretty much said there was nothing else I could do and that it is probably a corrupted chip. I actually finally got ahold of ASUS customer support (I had to call back 3 times). I've never actually did a chip swap before, but seeing videos of it online, it looks as simple as replacing the CMOS battery. Ended up taking twice as long to straighten and fit than if I had taken my time. Make sure you line the legs up and do not bent them flat as I did once when I was in a hurry. It is very easy to remove the BIOS chip with your fingers. I called ASUS support, and of course after waiting for 20 minutes, I got the ever so wonderful "We're so busy, leave your name and number and we'll call YOU" response. Their customer support has always been absolutely fantastic, and if it's a dead board, i'm sure they'll help me out with an exchange (that and their warehouse is like 40 minutes from my house. Then all i'd manage to accomplish there is voiding my warranty (I think)ĭoes anyone think that could actually fix this issue?Īt this point i'm leaving my last resort option to Newegg.

But I don't want to install a new bios chip, and go to boot up to find the same American Megatrends screen staring back at me. I have no problem doing so if it means it will fix this boot-up issue. I was thinking about that, but the idea kind of scares me. Just make sure you specify the right bios when you order. There is a guy in the US who is quite reputable. If you are desperate simple buy a preprogrammed BIOS chip from the bay. Would that have anything to do with it? I thought that was just because I didn't have a hard drive hooked up to the motherboard. Then when it gets to the American Megatrends screen, the BOOT_DEVICE_LED goes solid and stays like that until the thing shuts itself down. None of them stay solid, they just blink on randomly at different times while warming up. Side note, but I was really really hoping I wouldn't have to RMA this board :/ I have a big LAN to go to tomorrow and I was desperately hoping to have the new rig up and running for it.ĪDDITIONAL INFO: Not sure if it matters, but while it is attempting to boot, all 4 of the Q LED lights go red. All I need to do to get the Vishera up and working is a simple BIOS flash, and of course, I can't get past the splash screen to access BIOS. This wouldn't be so annoying if I didn't have the solution to my main issue sitting on this USB drive. I might try to rig up a different power supply and see if maybe the PSU is to blame. I also tried the newer RAM, being a different brand and speed.

Unfortunately I don't have a PS2 keyboard handy.Īlso since creating the thread, I have also attempted different sticks of RAM, in case there was a dead stick or something. 3 times for each, once in each of the different USB version slots. Just tried it with 2 different USB keyboards. Should that not be an option try an old PS2 Keyboard.that seems to have done the trick for those that still had problems. If that fails try a different Keyboard because others have had problems with some Keyboards. Sofar so good, the only things I can tell you is try plugging you KB and Mouse in to the BLACK USB Ports on the back, I have found that problems pop up when I plug in to the other ports(RED(USB 3.0) BLUE(USB 2.0)), like Can't get into BIOS or GPU DIMM POST locks the system up. G.Skill Ripjaw X 8GB stick of DDRMHz (also tried a 4GB stick of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1333) _.ĮDIT: Derp, forgot the specs that matter. i'm kind of stumped, though.Īny help? I feel like this is something incredible simple. I tried checking my connections, RAM seating (1 stick of RAM in the farthest slot), removing the CMOS battery, and clearing CMOS via the jumpers. but I can't get into BIOS because the motherboard gets to here, and then shuts off. I have the new BIOS rom on a flash drive, ready to go. Please contact ASUS technical support for help. The data in the EC or EC Flash might be corrupted. "Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting.

I can't even get into BIOS to flash, because it boots up, loads the American Megatrends screen, and gives me the following message. Lo-and-behold, I got the motherboard to post after installing an old Phenom II.ĪNYWAY, my new problem. Those aren't supported unless you have the new 1703 BIOS build." my friend finally pointed out a stupid error on my part by doing a simple google search. Tested PSUs, CPUs, RAM, Motherboards, etc. I did everything possible to try and get it working. For the past few days i've been having a lot of stress trying to get it working (i've built 3 builds in the past, but my issue this time has been the ever-so-vague red CPU Q LED being on).
